When taking small bore solidstate probes in and out,
we also experienced problems of degrading brass screws.
We did/do the following:

extending the shank of the screws (see picture)
the Bruker versions are often short and do not completely go in the shimstack -
While taken out the probe, push the probe up until both 2 screws are fully disconnected.
Otherwise the weight of the probe will pull on the last piece of thread of the screw and damage this.
This will accumulate over time, resulting in damaged screw(s) and damaged thread in the shimstack.
